DGT & EP is a needs based program that began in 2006 and is entirely free to our children. We serve over 60 low income children, ages 8 to 18, from disadvantaged neighborhoods and families, most who are part of the free or reduced lunch program. Our children are from a variety of cultural backgrounds including African-American, Hispanic, Caucasian, and Brazilian. We provide everything, without charge, including tennis instruction, equipment, tutoring and enrichment, tournament and match play, and special occasion field trips (i.e. The U.S. Open, museums, art galleries, concerts, local farms, and other educational trips). Our staff consists of two full-time employees, one part-time summer tennis professional, and too many volunteers to name. DGT &EP has qualified tennis instructors, current and former school teachers, National Honor Society students, doctors, numerous volunteers from local towns, high schools, and Western Connecticut State University. A serious commitment by both the child and their guardian is necessary to derive the maximum benefit from our program. In addition to other requirements, both must sign our Participant & Parent Agreement in order to be accepted into the program.

Five DGT participants made the Danbury High School Varisty and Abbott Tech Varsity tennis teams. DGT has dramatically changed their lives from being sedentary and burdened with low self-esteem to ones filled with discipline, healthy activities, drive, and goal orientation.
