Mission and Goals

THREE GOALS

To stress the critical importance of education.

From September – June we run our Tutoring and Enrichment Program on Monday – Thursday from 2:30 to 6:00 at our office, located at 196 Main Street.  Former teachers, National Honor Society students from local high schools, WCSU students, and local residents help our children with tutoring and enrichment, homework, extra reading and math, schoolwork, managing their time and studies effectively, and stressing the importance of individual responsibility.  To remain in the program, each participant is required to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA or “C” average in school.  We collect progress reports and report cards from every participant and we work closely with parents, teachers, social workers, and principals.

To emphasize the importance of nutrition and exercise. With childhood obesity reaching near epidemic levels, DGT & EP is addressing the issue by playing an active role in reversing the trend. In addition to time on the court playing tennis, each practice session includes a minimum of 30 minutes of fitness per day. We have doctors, nutritionists, and volunteers discuss the significance of healthy eating habits, caloric intake, and exercise with our kids. Furthermore, all DGT & EP participants are required to finish a 1 mile Kid’s Race every year.

To teach the basics of tennis to the children. This includes drills, games, and frequent competitions between similar programs at Norwalk Grassroots Tennis, JR USTA league competition, and local tennis clubs including Silver Spring Country Club, Ridgefield Tennis Club, and Ridgewood Country Club. Experience has shown that a commitment to tennis dramatically enhances the lives of youngsters by improving self confidence, physical fitness, ability to focus on school work and respect for others.
